I went to buy a sympathy card today and was dismayed at what I saw...there were cards for the loss of your mother and father...the loss of a PET (now, I know they can become LIKE family...) but there wasn't one single card for the loss of a child...

So, I picked the sweetest generalized sympathy card that I could find...I'm sure there are cards that are specific to the loss of a child but should I really have to look that hard??? It's obvious that infants/children die everyday...

Or, is it still too hard for the average person to be confronted with that fact???

Maybe we should start a letter writing campaign to Hallmark. I know they make miscarriage cards. I'm sorry you had to even look for such a card.

I recently went to buy a card also and couldn't believe that they didn't have one for the loss of a child. We received over 100 sympathy cards for Emma and Chase and not a single one of them were specific to the loss of a baby/child. People wrote their own quotes inside and personalized them.

The only cards that we received that actually included the words "child" or "daughter" implied that we had years and years of shared memories. Of course reading what could have been made it all even worse. I was blessed with 14 days with Corinne but our time wasn't spent baking cookies, brushing her hair, etc... it was spent in the NICU fighting for her life. We should not only create a campaign, we should create cards for this very specific time of grief.

I don't know, but it makes me mad that cards, and people are like that!
I'm upset with my youngest stepdaughter whom is like 24 years old, all I hear about (since she decided after a year to come back around) is about her MIL how hard it is on her and (my stepdaughter's husband) since his stepdad died last year.
That it was his 1 year anniversy and the fact she has never even mentioned Emily's 2nd heavenly birthday...it makes me so sad. What do I say?...I guess just like the cards huh...(((HUGS)))

I totally agree. I went to Hallmark when my friend had her miscarriage, and I did have to search for a card. BUT I did find several, mostly for miscarriages. :) The one I got was about how I sympathized with her. That we had both lost children, and that I was there if she needed me.
Right next to the loss of a child cards...a "HAPPY COMING OUT OF THE CLOSET" card. Crazy!!

I have to admit that when I look at cards, I actually look for specific child loss cards just to see if there are any there. Sometimes there are, but a lot of times there are not. We received a couple after Alexandra died. I can't believe they even make such a card.

UGH! I know what you mean! I have looked for cards about the loss of a child at stores and can never find any. I know you can get some online but c'mon now. Does Hallmark think that children don't die?
